Juneteenth was quiet for me. I didn't go to any festivals or parades. Because I didn't feel safe. Instead, I went to a Juneteenth marketplace, which a mall put together. The marketplace was a vendors fair of small black-owned businesses. It was on Friday. It was a beautiful affair. There were family-owned businesses. Th at were selling handmade goods. Like jewelry and beauty products. Candles and artwork. There was even a child Under the age of ten. Selling goods, I was impressed with her.I love how the event was family oriented. I also liked that it was peaceful. I wish that there was live music and food vendors there. That would have made it perfect. I purchased jewelry and some beauty products. I made sure that I spent my 💸
In my community. With my people. I'm making this a daily habit too.
I closed out the weekend by spending time with my family. We watched a couple of the BET Juneteenth specials. We ordered some takeout bbq and enjoyed each other's company. We kept it simple and safe.
